CLASS
"I married him because I thought he was a gentlemen"
Myrtle says this since she is of a lower class and she thinks that by marrying someone of a higher class she will gain the respect and sophistication of his class.

GATSBY'S DREAM
In chapter 4 Jordan says to nick that "Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay." Gatsby's dream in life was to be with Daisy his true love, he was very nervous when Nick invited him and Daisy to his house because he hasn't seen her for four years and is afraid of how it will go. Gatsby waited for her and not get involved wi any other woman.

MORAL DECAY
"I'm glad it's a girl. And I hope she'll be a fool- that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool."
The quote taken from chapter 1 page 21 shows moral decay. This is shown in the text by Daisy saying this comment about her daughter. She is a fool for staying with her husband knowing he has another woman. It is totally immoral to cheat and especially during that time period. Also, for her to want her daughter to be a fool in not right at all she should want better do her daughter.

PAST/FUTURE
"In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I've been thinking over in my mind ever since"
Nick often thinks about the advice that his father had given him in the past and applies it to his life now and in the future. His father told him not to criticize anyone because other people have not had the advantages that he has had. Nick reserved his judgements about other people because he has not experienced what they have experienced.
